John Kitchen

John Kitchen studied at the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge, and was an organ scholar in both universities.  After 12 years as a Lecturer in Music and University Organist in St Andrews, he moved in 1988 to the University of Edinburgh as a Senior Lecturer in Music. He retired from that post in September 2014, and is now an Honorary Fellow in Music.  He continues as University Organist and Director of the Edinburgh University Singers, and is much involved with the Raymond Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments housed at St Cecilia’s Hall and Museum.  In addition, John is Director of Music of Old Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church and Edinburgh City Organist with duties at the Usher Hall.  He gives many solo recitals both in the UK and further afield, and also plays regularly with several ensembles, covering a wide range of musical styles. In addition, he is much in demand as a continuo player, accompanist, lecturer, writer, adjudicator, reviewer, and recording artist.
