Samuel McKnight

Samuel is working on his MLitt at the Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts in St Andrews. He studied music composition at Hillsdale College and Bowling Green State University, writing a setting of the mass text for his Masters thesis under the supervision of Marilyn Shrude. He is broadly interested in the theological underpinnings of modern art, especially the post-war music of composers Sofia Gubaidulina and Alfred Schnittke. His is currently researching the availability of Stanley Cavell’s philosophy for a theological aesthetics. Before his studies at St Andrews, Samuel taught music and poetry in Arizona and English in South Korea.
