Terms and Conditions

Copyright and Permissions: Any article published on Transpositions may be archived with the British Library, but copyright remains with the author.

Reprints: Reprints are permitted two months after initial publication at Transpositions, and we ask that any reprints contain a line indicating the article was first published on Transpositions. We also reserve the right to rerun your article at a later date.

Originality:  We require all submissions to be original works that are not published elsewhere, and that are not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Images: In the event that you would like to include an image authored by someone other than yourself for the purpose of illustrating ideas in your essay, we ask that you either secure permission from the author to use the image, or justify ‘fair use’ of the image. The ‘fair use’ of an image can be justified if the image is commented upon directly (e.g. a scene from a film under analysis) or if the image is under a Creative Commons License. If the image is merely decorative, this is not sufficient to justify ‘fair use’ of the image. Final imagery will be decided upon by the Team of Editors.

Privacy: Author names and email addresses will be entered in the website, but will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of Transpositions and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Remuneration: Our journal is run by a team of volunteers. At this point, we are unable to provide any remuneration for articles. Your contribution, however, is highly valued and serves to promote the ongoing conversation between theology and the arts. We hope your article will be read widely.

Responsibility: If your article is published, you will be expected to respond to any comments and facilitate the conversation in a timely fashion.

AI: Work submitted to Transpositions must be entirely original and authored by you. Writers are not permitted to use Generative AI (Gen AI) to undertake primary authorial responsibilities, such as generating arguments, analysis, or insights, or drawing conclusions. This includes the use of tools and programs that use Gen AI to improve your writing. Read more about our AI policy here.
